In Solidarity We Stand

Team No Sleep (TNS) Community Based Organization (CBO) – started in 2015 as a craft workshop to improve the economic livelihoods of refugees fleeing persecution based on their sexual orientation or gender identity and expression (SOGIE).

The refugee groups operate as part of a network through which TNS CBO provides capacity building support in diverse areas such as leadership and governance; economic empowerment; youth empowerment; HIV prevention, care and treatment and sustainable agriculture. TNS was officially registered as a Community Based Organization in 2019 by the County government of Kajiado. We have since established a niche and a proven track record in working with and empowering refugees in Nairobi.

We achieve this by providing community engagement, mental and sexual Reproductive health rights training, economic empowerment training and skills to better challenge the human rights violations often experienced by such a stigmatized and discriminated group.

Join the community to give livelihood for refugees

A unique aspect of our work is that the training sessions culminate in action plan development followed by periodic visits to each participant by the program director and coordinator. These visits provide encouragement, material and financial support for action plan implementation. Over time, our mission has expanded to health advocacy, economic empowerment, psychosocial support and social justice for the Lesbian Gay, Bisexual Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ+) refugee community to better meet the needs of our members on a holistic level.

TNS CBO is governed by a Board of Directors and a team of highly skilled and committed staff. TNS CBO has a secretariat team who discuss and shape the direction of the organization and form the proposal development team who write and send out proposals to potential donors. TNS has a team of Peer educators and volunteers who are the foot soldiers of the organization and assist in the implementation of activities by reaching the refugee community.

Our Work

The most effective and powerful agents for rapid and positive social change in regions of limited resources are community based leaders and as TNS we emulate that to our refugee communities. This is especially true in dealing with issues such as HIV/AIDS, Human rights advocacy, economic empowerment, mental health, drug use and abuse where social behaviour is closely related to health status and general wellbeing. TNS CBO carries out its work by collaborating with other refugee led organizations, community-based organizations (CBOs), local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs) or informal community groups who have approached and invited us to collaborate in building capacity for their communities.
